Why Navamma exists

For generations, a new mother was never alone.

A mother, a grandmother, an aunt — someone who had done this before — stayed close.

In Kerala homes, the weeks after birth always had a rhythm. The women around you knew which oil to warm, what to cook, and when to gently insist you rest. Recovery happened inside a circle of care, and you were carried through it.

Today that circle is harder to hold together. Many mothers come home to a quiet flat — a body that is still healing, a newborn who needs them around the clock, and a partner learning everything at the same time. The people who would once have stayed are in another city, working, or simply stretched too thin.

Navamma was created to bring that circle back — not to replace your family, but to sit beside you the way an experienced elder once would, with qualified medical guidance behind every visit. We have spent time with new mothers. We know what these weeks really ask of you.

If this is where you are right now…

  • "I'm exhausted, and I've barely slept."
  • "My body is still sore and healing."
  • "I'm nervous about handling the baby."
  • "My mother or family can't be here."

If any of this sounds like you, you are not failing — you're simply in the part that was always meant to be shared. That's exactly where we step in: steady hands at home, and a plan made just for you.

A note for new fathers & partners. Holding a newborn and supporting a recovering partner for the first time feels daunting for almost everyone. Our caregivers and coordinator guide you too — so you can feel steady and useful, not unsure.

In short

What Navamma is

Navamma is a doctor-guided Ayurvedic postnatal home-care service for mothers and babies in Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum), Kerala — rooted in traditional Sutika care, organised to modern standards of safety and trust.

  • Every care plan is assessed and approved by a qualified Ayurvedic doctor before any treatment begins.
  • Care is delivered at home by verified, trained, background-checked caregivers under practitioner supervision.
  • Two plans: Mother Care, or Mother + Baby Care — in 7, 15 or 21-day durations.
  • Packages start from ₹1,800 per day; the final plan and price are confirmed after a free consultation.
  • Medicines and oils are used only as prescribed by the doctor after assessment.
  • Navamma supports recovery and is not a hospital, emergency, gynaecology, paediatric or mental-health service.

The science of Sutika Paricharya

Why Ayurveda treats the first 45 days as sacred

In Ayurveda, the postnatal mother is called sūtika, and her care — sūtika paricharya — is a structured regimen, not a set of chores. That is what separates it from general home help.

The first ~45 days · sūtika kāla

Why this window matters

Classical texts describe the weeks after birth as a time when the body resets. In Ayurvedic understanding, vāta is naturally heightened, digestion is delicate, and tissues are rebuilding — so a calm, warm, structured routine in this period is held to be the foundation of long-term strength.

Aahaara · diet

Why diet comes first

Warm, freshly cooked, easy-to-digest food is used to gently rekindle digestion (agni) and rebuild strength. Traditional postpartum nutrition is matched to the mother's stage of recovery — never a generic diet, and never with curative claims.

Abhyanga · snana · warmth

Why massage & bath matter

Warm medicated-oil massage (abhyanga), a herbal bath (vethu kuli) and gentle warmth are traditionally used to ease soreness, support circulation, and bring comfort and rest — applied step by step to how the mother is actually recovering.

This is the difference between trained Sutika care and a general home nurse or helper. Every step follows a doctor-guided Ayurvedic regimen designed for this mother, at this stage of recovery — not a one-size routine.

Treatment, medicines and oils are decided only after a qualified practitioner's assessment.

Verified, trained team

Every caregiver is identity-verified, background-checked, trained and carries an ID.

Hygiene standards

Clear hygiene, attendance and privacy protocols for every home visit.

If something doesn't seem right, we stop and escalate

Our caregivers are trained to recognise warning signs in the mother or baby — such as high fever, severe pain, heavy bleeding, wound concerns, breathing difficulty, poor feeding, dehydration or unusual lethargy — and to pause service and advise immediate medical attention. Navamma does not diagnose, prescribe independently, or replace your hospital, gynaecologist, paediatrician or emergency care.

Families we've supported

We publish only genuine, consented feedback. No health claims, and no baby photos without written parental consent.

Questions

Frequently asked

When can postnatal care start?
Care usually begins in the early days after delivery, once you are home and the mother is stable. The exact start date is confirmed by our supervising Ayurvedic doctor after a free consultation, based on your delivery type and recovery. You can also book before delivery so a plan is ready when you need it.
Is Navamma suitable after a C-section?
We support mothers after a Caesarean section only where it is clinically appropriate and cleared by the supervising Ayurvedic doctor. The care plan is adjusted to protect the surgical site, and we coordinate with your treating doctors. We do not perform wound treatment or replace your hospital follow-up.
Do you provide baby care?
Yes. The Mother + Baby Care Package adds gentle baby massage and bathing support by a trained, verified practitioner, plus guidance for parents on safe handling and hygiene. Any concern about the baby's health is escalated to a paediatrician. Navamma does not replace paediatric care.
Are medicines included?
Medicines, oils and powders are only prescribed or approved by a qualified Ayurvedic doctor after assessment, and their cost is reflected in your personalised plan. Caregivers never independently prescribe or change medicines.
Which areas do you cover?
Our pilot service covers Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) city and nearby areas within our service radius. Share your location during enquiry and we'll confirm availability. We plan to expand to other Kerala districts.
How is pricing decided?
Mother Care starts from ₹1,800 per day and Mother + Baby Care from ₹2,400 per day. Your final price depends on the doctor's recommendation, package type, duration, treatments and medicines, distance and home location. The full plan and cost are confirmed after your free consultation, with no hidden charges.
Why does the Mother + Baby plan cost more?
It includes everything in Mother Care, plus dedicated newborn support — gentle baby massage and bathing by a trained practitioner, parent guidance on safe handling and hygiene, a daily baby-care checklist, and paediatric escalation. That added time, training and care is why it starts from ₹2,400 per day rather than ₹1,800.
Do you help with breastfeeding and latching?
We offer gentle, practical guidance on comfortable feeding and positioning as part of care, and we refer you to a lactation specialist when more support is needed. We don't make any guarantee about milk supply — every mother and baby is different, and feeding is always guided by what is safe and comfortable for you.
Can I book before delivery?
Yes. Many families, including those in their third trimester and NRI families returning to Kerala, plan postnatal support in advance. Tell us your expected delivery date and we'll hold a tentative plan for you.
How do I speak to the doctor?
After your enquiry, our care coordinator calls you, and suitable cases are scheduled for an assessment with a qualified Ayurvedic doctor who recommends the right plan. Start by booking a free consultation, calling us, or messaging us on WhatsApp.
